Welcome to Ett’s website!
Ett is affectionately known as “Just Ett, Hon!” to many who know her, and as “Ettila the Hon!” to her new Mainstream, Plus, Advanced and Challenge graduates. She started square dancing in Baltimore, MD on January 13, 1987 with Chesapeake Squares in Baltimore and first picked up the microphone to call for the club in the summer of 1989. She is a regular instructor and caller with both Chesapeake Squares and DC Lambda Squares in Washington, DC.
In addition to currently calling her own clubs Ettseteras (C1) and Offsets (C2) in the Washington DC area and various weekends around the USA, she calls Mainstream through high Challenge around the world, including Canada, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Denmark, and Japan. She is a member of the National Capital Area Square Dance Leaders Association, (NCASDLA), the Gay Caller’s Association (GCA), and the International Association of Square Dance Callers (CALLERLAB).
In 2020, she took up the mantle of ZOOM calling to offer opportunities for dancers to maintain their dancing skills and call definitions virtually during the COVID-era pandemic. That program continues today with regular ZOOM sessions for both two-couple sets, individual dancers, and club dancers who do not have a caller anywhere near their home clubs. ZOOM also provides a great opportunity to meet many dancers and other callers worldwide who we all might never have known otherwise. If you want to join the fun of virtual dancing, contact her by email.
Ett’s love of square dancing shows from either side of the microphone as anyone who dances with and to her well knows. The idea of sharing a common language between dancers and callers appeals to her, especially on the international scene. When Ett says, “Square up!” she means it!
